Whirlwind

Tonight, my Uncle Donny passed away very suddenly, just a month after he lost his wife, my Aunt Jeannie.  We think it was a heart attack, but given the recent past, I’m sure there must have been a whole host of factors.

My dad was on his way back home after spending the past 2 days with his brother.  They reminisced, they played golf, and they simply enjoyed each other’s company. They left each other this afternoon with plans to hit the casino in the near future. No one had any idea that before he opened the back door, this is the kind of news he’d walk in to hear.

There is shock.  There is sadness, for all my family, but especially for my cousins who lost both parents to incredibly quickly.  There is a hole.

But I am so happy my dad had that time with my uncle.  They got to do what everyone wishes they had a chance to do in hindsight.  And while I know we all have a hard road ahead of us, I also know what a gift these short days were, to my dad, to my uncle, to all of us.

If you could spare a prayer, a kind thought, a little good juju for my family, we’d greatly appreciate it.  And hug your family members just as quickly as you can get your arms around them.

  1. I'm so sorry. It's always so hard to wrap your mind around something like that when it happens so quickly. I'm glad your dad had that time with him.
