An Entire Flock of Sheep Can't Help

I sleep with 5 pillows: 2 on my right, 2 on my left, and 1 to hug or cover my ears to dampen the snoring noises next to me. Chris doesn’t have a problem with this because a) we have a king size bed, b) he sleeps with 3 pillows himself, which is probably a violation of Mandom (sorry, Honey), and c) the aforementioned snoring. At least 2 of these pillows have been with me as long as I can remember, and I love them dearly, even bringing 1 or both of them with me when I travel. I seem to recall 2 others coming into my possession sometime during high school, and the last one I appropriated during the new marriage consolidation of stuff.

Why all this talk about pillows? Did you see my last post? I bottom feeding for subject matter here.

No, actually, I have a problem. Despite my deep and abiding adoration for the pillows that have been with me longer than almost any object in this house, I don’t think they’re getting the job done anymore. More often than not, I wake up with a stiff neck, and that makes me cranky. That was fun for awhile, but even I’m sick of my cranky self.

So I went pillow shopping. Y’all. This is not easy. First, the price ranges from pocket change to here, have a lung in exchange. And I don’t even know what I need. I know I’m not a fan of those solid foam numbers, so that’s simple enough to cull out. But am I a back sleeper? A side sleeper? Well, seeing as I’m asleep, I’m not exactly able to make an accurate observation, but I think I’m both. I hate waking up with a pancake flat pillow that might as well not be there, and I like to be able to squish and poof a pillow into the shape I want and have it stay that way, mostly. A little resistance while it complies to my demands, if you will.

Then you throw memory foam into the mix, and it’s a whole other ballgame.

This is giving me great fits of frustration, far more than such a trivial matter deserves. I just want a pillow that my head won’t sink complete into and cause my suffocation. And one that won’t require the monetary equivalent of an internal organ to purchase. I want a good night’s sleep. My kids sleep through the night now, why can’t I?

  1. I agree that finding a good pillow is so hard! I've bought 3 new pillows one from target, wal-mart, and marshalls. None of them have really been good. They lose their fluffiness too fast. They just don't make things like they use to.
