Bits and Bytes

It’s been busy around here, but not with anything particularly interesting to write. Every time I sit down to put something together, I draw a complete blank, and then all I can think about is how much I’d really like to take a nap. For a month.

We’ve hosted back to back family visits (I say that like as if I’m the one giving them room and board, which I am not, so kudos to my mom and grandma), so any free time there might be has been spent chit chatting and eating in large groups, 2 extremely pleasant activities as far as I’m concerned. It’s just a taste of what’s to come in a couple of months when all 14 of us here get in 4 minivans (OK, 3 minivans and an SUV, assuming my sister’s car doesn’t officially kick it between now and then ) (sounds like a Cuba Gooding Jr. movie, doesn’t it?) and haul ourselves up to their neck of the woods. Gatherings in those parts will routinely crest 40 on any given night. That’s a lot of family. And a lot of beer. But I’m so looking forward to it because I haven’t shared this road trip with my siblings in, ahem, awhile, and I can’t wait to remind them of every single memory along the 1200 mile route. And now I’ve probably just scared them into dropping out.

I’m also neck deep in kindergarten registration. It hasn’t been a straightforward process for us (when is anything?), and Sammy is currently enrolled in 2 different schools that I must choose between soon. At least, I think he is. I have no idea. I had to provide so much documentation – that we really live where we live, that Sammy was born and not hatched, that we didn’t kidnap him from a nicer family – that I was actually surprised they didn’t ask for a blood sample. I met with teachers and administrators to make sure that I had all the information I needed to do right by my son and that they knew what they would be getting into with him, and I hope we’re all on the same page. Now if I can just get him to the door of his classroom next August without tripping over something in a tear stained haze, I’m golden.

Perhaps tomorrow will include a gem of humorous or endearing proportions that I can adequately convey. For now, these are the scattered tidbits of my brain. I need a defrag.
